Lochearnhead scout station, was a former train station converted into an outdoor centre for scouts and other organisations. The 163 Gorgie Scouts were regular visitors to Lochearnhead over the years.
In 1968 we visited in winter when there was snow on the ground, and this was a cold time in the scout station, which was heated in the main station by a log fire, but the Porter’s Lodge and wooden cabins where scouts slept, there was no heating. We were hardy souls in those days.
These photos are taken from Mr Young’s slides and as can be seen although the weather is cold and there is snow, we used this as an activity and enjoyed the whole experience.
Tommy Lenton in Porter’s Lodge was the ‘luxury’ accommodation at the station, with everyone else in wooden cabins. Brian Maxwell is the scout next to Donald. He’s also tasting the soup & him and Tommy Lenton are running for the bus! That’s Tommy in the Porter’s Lodge. Alan Doctor’s doing the washing up.
