163 Gorgie Scouts – Balquhidder 1966

One of the many places that the 163rd Gorgie Scouts liked to visit for summer camp was beautiful Balquhidder in Perthshire.

Scouts enjoyed a great camp there in 1966 where they left in the usual mode of transport, a removals van from Dalry Road outside the scout hall in Dalry-Haymarket church.

Camps over the years were set up in a similar way and patrols had routines to follow.  Each day there would be tent and patrol inspection where everyone had to be turned out smartly and tents would be clean, tidy and laid out neatly.  Patrol points would be gained and lost here.

Patrols also engaged in activities making things that would add to the points tally.  These were great team building exercises and boys in each patrol normally worked hard for each other.

The weather in 1966 was great as can be see from the photos, which were taken from group scout leader, Mr R.B.Young’s slide collection.
