marybank vistas 1991 6

Marybank, Ross-shire

After leaving Oxbridge Lane Primary in Stockton-on-Tees in 1991 as class teacher, I moved to the north of Scotland to a small village school called Marybank to become Head Teacher. I stayed in the adjoining school house for the during the job, expecting to move into my own house, but it became quite convenient staying by the school (sometimes too convenient as work was always on hand).

I took up a few outdoor activities like running and cycling, especially in the woodland area of Rogie Falls near Contin, and I joined the Strathpeffer Golf Club. Strathpeffer is a well known Victorian Spa village, where people used to go to take the waters. Now it is more of a tourist attraction.

During one of my cycle trips on the surrounding hills, I took these photos that show the wonderful mountainous landscape surrounded by lush farm land all around Marybank.

God’s own country indeed!
