Hutchison Vale Boys Club went to Gothenburg, Sweden for the first time and took part in the Gothia Cup, a World Cup for boys and girls football teams.
We took two teams, an under 12 team and an under 14s team. I was with the under 12 team with Vincent Abbasciano. Rab Lettuce and Jimmy Johnstone were with the under 14s.
The under 12s won the whole tournament beating Pumitas (Mexico) 2-0 in the final in the World Cup Ullevi Stadium. Francis Lee Presented the trophy and medals to the team.
The under 14s were knocked out in the quarter finals.

We won again in 1980 Tam against a German team 4-0 in final , quite interesting seeing the pics and great memories!
Hi Darren,
Nice to hear from you, glad you found my little corner of memories. Yes they were fun times, my photos only go up to 1979 as I moved on after that to go to college.
Hope you are all well.
Best wishes,
Tam
HI Tam!!!
It’s Bianca! Vincent’s daughter!! So nice to see these pics!!! Hope you are well and that life has been good to you!!! X
Great to hear from you Bianca, I’ll drop you an email 🙂
I am pictured in the Under 14’s (Alan Hill) photo. We went back and were runners up in the Gothia Cup in 1979 (I still have my Puma cup medal) and also went to Copenhagen, Denmark in 1980 and won it if I remember correctly. 1980 also seen us winning the Scottish Cup in Musselburgh.
Hello Alan,
Thanks for getting in touch, I remember you, although perhaps you don’t remember me. I was only with Hutchison Vale up to 1979, where I was latterly with the under 14s for league and cup games, following Jimmy Johnstone’s departure. We then went on to the Gothia Cup in Sweden, which I helped organise with Vincent Abbasciano. I am just sharing the photos that I have from my time at Hutchison Vale, which I hope you have enjoyed seeing again.
