Gorgie Scouts &#8211; Kerrera 1964"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>One of the earliest camps recorded on Mr R.B.Young&#8217;s slides, from where these photos are taken, was Kerrera, at the Sound of Kerrera by Oban.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 0;\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On arriving at Oban the boys and leaders still had to get a ferry to the island then had to carry their gear and tents to the site, so they had quite an adventure before they had even begun to enjoy the camping experience. &nbsp;The ferry across seems to have been a small boat as can be seen with the ferry boatman below. &nbsp;On a later visit to Kerrera in 1967, the group seem to travel in the main passenger ferry and are in a different campsite that looks more open and exposed. &nbsp;The campsite of 1964 is set on a hillside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not many photos survived &nbsp;from this period, but the images below reflect an early format of the camp structure with patrol and scout inspections every day, full uniform for special occasions, and general camp life. &nbsp;The boys all appear happy and Mr R.B.Young is leading the group, probably as Group Scout Leader. &nbsp;Eric Carbarns appears in one image and it is likely that he was Scout Leader at this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-3 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex
