{"id":683,"date":"2016-10-12T22:09:11","date_gmt":"2016-10-12T21:09:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scozia.co.uk\/?p=683"},"modified":"2023-02-09T00:05:08","modified_gmt":"2023-02-09T00:05:08","slug":"163-gorgie-scouts-aviemore-1970","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scozia.co.uk\/index.php\/2016\/10\/12\/163-gorgie-scouts-aviemore-1970\/","title":{"rendered":"163 Gorgie Scouts &#8211; Aviemore 1970"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The 163rd Gorgie Scouts went back to Aviemore in 1970 and left in the usual mode of transport, a removals van! &nbsp;It would be loaded up in front of our hall at Dalry-Haymarket Church on Dalry Road and we&#8217;d all pile on with the gear. &nbsp;It was fine as they left the top bit of the back door open a bit so we could see.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d275271.7080586056!2d-4.263838088346896!3d57.38358874890631!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x4885f1596e0bdc61%3A0x33ddd11cd59b7203!2sAviemore!5e0!3m2!1sen!2suk!4v1476910498965\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The weather was great that summer, and it was also the summer when the Commonwealth Games were in Edinburgh. &nbsp;I had volunteered to help at the games village through the scouts and had a great time meeting the athletes and making new friends. &nbsp;I think I went with Donald Clifford or Malcolm Lee. &nbsp;We could only do this job for a short time, as we had to leave for Aviemore camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During this camp we were joined by a group of Nigerian scouts, who had been at the Blair Atholl Jamborette. &nbsp;We enjoyed their company and they mixed well with our activities. &nbsp;I made friends with a boy called Tunde Adegbola, and we kept in touch for many years after this camp. In fact he came to visit me in the late 1970s when on a visit to Scotland. &nbsp;Unfortunately we lost touch over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The uniforms had changed from the khaki to dark green, and&nbsp;modern Aviemore Centre was beginning to be developed.
